Program highlights

  • Highlight interest in osteopathic principles and teaching: VCOM affiliation brings OMM lectures, sports medicine/ONMM rotations and the chance to mentor VCOM students.
  • Ask about HCA research partners and how to have a research or QI concept ready by January 1 of intern year.
  • Practice management rotation: PGY3s attend ethics, credentialing and QI committees and meet the CEO/COO/CNO/CFO; ask how graduates use this in leadership roles.
  • Procedural simulation lab during didactics (central lines, LPs, vaginal delivery); ask about how procedure competency is tracked.
  • Program accepts both MD and DO but not graduates out of school more than two years; interviews weigh more than scores alone, so stress community advocacy in Southwest Virginia.
  • Ask about the mission and domestic/international rotation options offered through VCOM.
