About the program

Five-year Hackensack University Medical Center orthopaedic residency, a newer program with three residents a year and a full complement of fifteen. PGY-1 is built on four-week blocks including a basic surgical skills course, and PGY-2 to PGY-5 use eight-week subspecialty rotations in trauma, adult reconstruction, sports, hand, oncology, pediatrics, foot and ankle and spine, with protected research rotations for every resident.

Program highlights

  • A three-hour weekly core curriculum covers lectures, case and research presentations, journal clubs and workshops, and the program has no fellows so residents are the educational focus; a faculty mentorship program starts in PGY-1.
  • NRMP participant; ERAS applications are due October 1 with at least three (ideally four) letters, and interviews are conducted in January by email and Thalamus invitation.
