Hi,
I need some advice. I am a FMG. Step1/2/cs is82/80/pass in second attempt. Will take step3 soon. Will start observership in a reputed University soon. What is the chance of my getting a Residency in Peds with my background. Please reply. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated |

Getting an observership with a good reputable University will help you. Chances are good if are looking for J1. With H1 visa, you will have tougher choices. |

| Thanks a lot root for your suggestion. I have started my observership. I am looking for both J1 and H1 visa. I also wanted to know about the scope of getting a Residency in Family Medicine for a FMG. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks once again |

getting Residency is much easier in Family Medicine. The difficult part in getting residency is convincing the Program Director that you are really interested in Family Practice.
Most of the time, residents who apply for all other branches of residency - surgery, obgyn, etc. apply to both FM and IM as back up. If you can convince the PD that you truly want to get into FM, then you have a good shot. |
