| is there any J1 research visa, for research assistantship in any faculty, how is it different from the J1 exchange visitor visa and are there any pathways for converting it to H1 visa? |

There is no seperate visa like J1 research visa or J1 exchange visitor visa.
Basically all of them are J1 visa.
Depending upon the residency requirements, one can change from J1 to H1.
In usual cases, 2-year home residency requirements do apply. So few people apply for J1 waiver based on-
a) Hardships
b) Interest from Government Agency or Veterans Affairs or Concard 30 program.
c) Letter from other government involved to waive the residency requirement.
Option (c) is no longer an option for IMGs. |
