Dear Sir,
I am an IMG from India. I am planning to write step 2 CS in May 2008. Hopefully, I ‘ll be getting the results of step 2 CS by August 2008 as per the reporting schedule of step 2 CS scores mentioned in USMLE official website.
Now if I want to write step 3 also, I can do it only after getting the step 2 CS scores followed by applying for ECFMG certificate, which may take another 2-3 weeks. Is it? In October, if am writing step 3, again it may take 4 weeks to get the results.
After appearing for step 3, am I eligible to apply for residency programmes under H1 visa, with my step 3 scores pending? Is it necessary to have step 3 scores in hand before applying for residency programmes under H1 visa?
Since step 2 CS and step 3 has to be taken in US, I find it difficult to appear for both the exams when I am planning to visit US for step 2 CS for 2 months (MAY-JUNE 2008) during which I am also planning to do observership. Is it advisable to take step 3 in October 2008? In that case I have to go to US again for step 3 in October 2008 and also to participate in the 2009 match which will begin by Nov-Dec 2008.
Can you advise me how to deal with this situation? |

unfortunately that is the case,
after you complete step 2 cs, you will have to get ECFMG certification. Only with ECFMG certification, you can apply for step 3. |
