Your "subject title" and your message is contradictory. So I am giving the answers to both the cases.
You can file from F1 visa to both J1 and H1B visa. No problem.
You can file H1-B/J1 visa to F1 visa. But in case of J1 visa, you can only file for non-immigrant visa ( other than H and L-visas) until you complete your residency requirement or you have received the waiver.
Footnote: You will not be able to file J1 visa, then F1 visa and then H1. this is not possible until the residency requirements are met. |

| Can you change your visa status from H4 to J1 in canada after you get your form DS2019 besides going back to your home country? If yes what are the chances of it being denied. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You in advance. |

If you change your visa status while staying in US, you are not required to travel abroad to get J1 visa. Your visa status will be switched by USCIS.
If you happened to visit your home country while this is happening or you were visiting your home country during residency years, then you have to get visa stamping from your home country. Canada, although allows people from other countries to get visa stamped, there is always a risk. |

If you changed the visa status from B1 to H1-B after 1-2 months coming here, then generally there is no problem. But if do it faster, there are chances that USCIS would suspect that you were trying to get to US under false pretence.
If you go to home country on vacation and go for visa stamping , it would be required of you to prove there was a legitimate reason why did you the change. So generally speaking there should not be any problem. |
