Match 2007-need info!

Dear All:

I am trying to get some info from reading all the posts but I still have some questions.
My situation is as following:

I am a foreign MD graduate and came to the britain a month ago. I decided to take the USMLE and hope to enter the Match system in order to start residency in July 2007.

My tenbtative plan is to pass Step 1 by June 2006 and Step 2 CK and SC by December 2006.
Wen is the deadline to apply for residency? Do I need to take and pass Step 3 before applying or Step 3 is not needed for the application but has to be taken before the start of the residency program.

I would need to be sponsored for the H-1b visa and ask whether this 'tiny' bit influences the timeline and requirements.

Thank you all.
I have passed the British PLAB I and II last year, hopefully that will help me in preparing for the USMLE.

Your advice is valuable.

I think you have to be aggressively complete the steps to be ready for the match 2007. The deadline for Match 2007 will be December 2006. But applying in December 2006 wont do you any good.

The ERAS starts from Sep 2006 and it is better for FMGs to submit the application by the end of Sep 2006. It is not required to have any steps taken for applying ERAS. But the problem arises with this aggressively persuing for match 2007 is that you may not have as much interviews as you may desire.

My suggestion will be to persue for Match 2008 so that you will have all the examinations taken before applying for the match thereby increasing your chances. During that time, please gather some observerships and externship experience.

Best of luck to you!

What is 'observership'? Is that something easy to get? I am on a tourist visa, am I allowed to have that?

Sorry for all the questions, but as my name says..I am NewHere Laughing
