need information about J1 and H1b

hello.
im still studying in my medical school and have plan to do USMLE step 1 between my medical school and then mle 2 after my school.so what i need to know is that. after mle 2 which type of visa i should apply for if i want to work in britain, and is it possible to get that type of visa after step 2. help me im new and i dont know anything about these things.

Congrats for early planning.

After step 2 CK, you have two more exams to go -
A) step 2 CS
B) step 3

Both these exams are currently conducted in US only. So for writing these exams as well as for attending interviews, you would need B visa (visitor visa).

One can join residency with either H1B or J1 (depending upon the residency hospital restrictions).

You are eligible to apply for J1 visa once you are ECFMG certified. ( Step 1+ Step 2 CK + Step 2 CS). If you however want H1 visa, you are also required to complete step 3. (step 1 + step 2 CK + step 2 CS + step 3).

Note: A residency hospital can only sponsor J1 or H1 visa for you.

J1 will broaden your scope for getting matched because many colleges only allow J1 visas. H1 is more competitive compartively.

J1 has two year home residency requirements whereas H1B doesnot have any restrictions.
