what is the difference between H1, J1 and Ead visa? Please tell me.

What should i get?

For residency, there are two most common visas that are used -
a) J1 visa:
J1 visa is the visa provided by ECFMG in association with the US govt. It is one of faster visa to get, but more difficult visa to get issued by the consulate. Also, it has 2 year home stay requirement for the physicians.

b) H1 B visa:
This visa allows you to work for a hospital without having an obligation to go back to the home country like the J1 visa ( 2 year home stay requirement). It involves more paper work with the hospital where you would work, and the hospital is the visa petitioner, unlike ECFMG for J1 visa.

Other ways people join residencies are:
1) O-1 visa:
One of the most difficult visas to be granted from the USCIS (Immigration Services). This visa is only granted to the very exceptional applicants.

2) EAD:
Some people join residency using EAD. EAD is the employment authorization. It is given only to applicants who have filed final stage of the green card process.

3) OPT:
Some people use OPT to join for the residency, and later change their status to any of the other visa options later. OPT is provided only to candidates who had done some studies in US, and their duration is different depending upon the courses you have taken. OPT is generally obtained by the people who have been studying in US with F1 or M1 or J1 visa.

The other options are:
a) Permanent resident ( or Green card) of US
b) Citizen of US

is there any possibility for a J1-sponsored IMG to change to any other visa status??
wat's the requirement of this change??

A J1-sponsored IMG can change their status to H1-B only if they qualify for a waiver.

For getting a waiver, a government agency, or veterans affairs office or a hospital in an underserved area needs to select you to work for them., If you get select for a waiver, then you need to serve them for 3 years on H1-B.

Other two options of getting a J1-waiver are:
a) Hardship in their home country:
If one can prove that it can be dangerous or risky for him to return to his home country, he can get waivered. The analogy of this runs similar to the asylum proceedings.

b) No objection certificate from home country
Physicians are ineligible to use their criteria for waiver.
