Answer:
EAD means Employment Authorization Document. This is provided certain individuals depending their immigration eligibility.

Check with a competent lawyer to find out whether you are eligible. Generally, people who had filed last stages in green card (either through employment or through relationships or through amnesty) can apply for EAD.

If you have an EAD, you donot need any other visa for studying for residency. EAD though often have to renewed yearly and is dependent upon the approval of the green card application.
